Play Platform Tennis

Platform Tennis Resources

Platform tennis is a racquet sport that combines a few elements of tennis, squash, and racquetball. Platform tennis is sometimes called “mini tennis,” because it is played on a court that is one-third the size of a normal tennis court. It’s fast-paced, played in doubles (two players on each side), and easy to learn and play right away—even on the first day you try it. Each match typically lasts around half an hour. Scoring is similar to tennis, except that each team only gets one serve per point. The 12-foot high, taut screen around the perimeter of the court is also playable, which spices the game up a bit, too.

The platform tennis court is raised onto a heated platform to keep it clear of snow and ice, which makes it a popular paddle sport to play in colder climates—even throughout the winter. The surface has a gritty texture which creates better traction, and reduces slippage. Platform tennis paddles are solid with a few holes in the middle to reduce air resistance on your swing. The balls are solid, spongy rubber balls with a short-cropped flocking surface, designed for consistent bounce, grip, and spin.
